Last night it took me 55 minutes to make the 15-minute trip to the gym. Strangely, I didn't even mind. All of Addis was one big spectacle, everyone was in a festive and happy mood, groups of men with sticks were chanting and dance-running along the sidewalks, groups of girls were singing, in cars and on the sidewalks. The restaurants and bars (especially the bars) were crowded with laughing smiling people. Driving out of Meskel Square the police had the road closed so I doubled back by the Ghion and took the road past the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and got to the Hilton that way. On my way out of the gym I noticed both the pool bar and the lobby bar at the Hilton were strangely deserted. Hm.

The BBC has a couple of articles here and here about the millennium celebrations.
Ante selay nechachiba,
At least for one day be positive. It is our millennium.
