Okay, I promise this will be the last millennium posting. Probably. Yesterday Toby and I went for a walk around the 'hood, partly just to stretch our legs, but partly to see if there were any visible signs of the party-like-it's-1999 from the night before. At 10:30 on a sunny morning, the streets were eerily deserted. Even busy roads like EU Rd. and Bole Rd. were almost empty of cars. It was kind of spooky. There were also few people on the streets. I did see three different cleaners sweeping up broken glass from in front of restaurant/bars. Last evening B and her sister stopped by for a cup of tea. Sis had done the whole Bole Rd. party thing and said that "everyone" was out, until well into the morning. She also said she saw zero sign of mayhem: no fighting, no violence, no police heavy-handedness, just pure Ethiopian Millennium enthusiasm and fun. There's something positive to be happy about.
I'm really enjoying the millennium posts (and am a regular reader now myself)... so please keep them coming if you have more to say.
