In a millennium-related tragedy, the only restaurant in Addis to serve Mexican food closed its doors not long ago. The Family Restaurant on Ethio-China Rd (aka "fruit-stand rd") is no longer in business. The owner confided in a friend of mine that the building rent was almost doubled by a landlord hoping to cash in on millennium fever, and the restaurant couldn't afford it. Now anyone with a craving for a burrito, nachos, or a quesadilla will have to drive to the only remaining and original Family Restaurant, in Debre Zeit. And on Cinco De Mayo I'm sure it will be worth the drive.
Help me out, because I've not yet had coffee. What millennium? 2000? That was a long time ago. I'm confused.
How far is Debre Zeit from Addis? Can you get the raw ingredients for Mexican food in grocery stores?
I love toby.

Never knew there was Mexican restaurant in Addis. It would be interesting to see some Millennium coverage on the net...I wonder if the
rest of the world can watch live coverage of what's happening in Addis.

Wow that is too bad. The Family Restaurant was a very welcome divergence from the norm. We ate there on numerous occasions last spring while we were in Addis for 9 weeks. It was fantastic.
