I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of apathetic about the politics in my city (DC). Since I moved here over two years ago, I haven't voted in local elections, and barely even know the name of my council member. I've been an example of the kind of voter apathy that lets scoundrels stay in office for years.
But no more! Last week a car cruised slowly through my neighborhood with a public address system blaring a campaign message at just below the pain threshold. The sound system was so poor that the only thing reaching my (aching) ears was distortion. The car was festooned with green campaign signs with a big "W" starting a name, I guessed.
Last night while walking the dog, as I approached the what is normally the calm and relative quiet of Meridian Hill Park, I heard from several blocks away someone hectoring a crowd with an over-amplified bull horn. As I got close enough to see what was going on, I saw the green signs again, with the Name "Weaver" on them. The big guy with the bullhorn was ordering everyone to vote for Weaver, and someone named Thomas, too.
I did a little web research and found out this Weaver character is running for councilman in my ward. I'm registering to vote in the District and simply can't wait until I can go pull the lever for anyone else in the world but Bryan Weaver. A wanna-be politician who adds to the noise level in my neighborhood clearly doesn't understand the issues. My only regret is that I can't vote against Thomas; he's in Ward 3.
Marco,
